For 2016 we have arranged a 4 day stay in the Northumberland town of Alnwick which is 200 miles north of Long Eaton. We shall be staying at the White Swan Hotel which is in the centre of Alnwick and backs onto the grounds of the famous Alnwick Castle and its gardens. One of the main features of the hotel is the Olympic Dining room. The Titanic’s Sister ship RMS Olympic was launched in 1911 one year before the Titanic. It was retired in 1935 and finally scrapped in 1937. Before it was dismantled completely, many of the fittings and artworks were auctioned. The then owner of the hotel bought the First Class dining room and transported it to the hotel, reconstructing it in all its splendour.
Alnwick is ideally situated for touring. The Northumberland National Park is close by and covers 400 square miles with Kielder Water to the south and stretching nearly to the Scottish border at Coldstream. To the west on the coast is Holy Island with its tidal causeway and Bamburgh Castle, both approx. 30 miles from the hotel. 85 miles north you can spend a few hours aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia which is berthed at the OceanTerminal Leith, Edinburgh. Tickets cost between £12.50 and £14.00 depending on your vintage. We will be providing you with gpx files for your GPS, printed routes and a list of places of interest.
Places as ever are limited with only 15 Double/Twin and 5 Single rooms available.
Free pre-tour visual health check is offered for your bike to ensure the safety of all riders on tour.
